While there is no shortage of admins, I think it's good to be able to kick cheaters out of the server in an attempt to keep the game fair and enjoyable for everyone. At the same time, I feel it's important to stress how admins can make or break not only the server's popularity, but OSF's image.
No admins or overly lenient admins will lead to a lack of balance and fairness while abusive admins leads to an environment that is simply no fun for anyone. There's a healthy balance somewhere in between.
Ryan, you play very often, so I feel you know the routine when it comes to using admin powers, i.e. warning players before punishing or kicking them, not kicking players for hacking unless you are 110% sure that they are in fact hacking, not switching a player to the other team so that your friend can be on your side.
At times, being an admin is as much of a burden as it is a privilege. You cannot forget that players will ask you to kick someone because they broke some rule or stole some vehicle or are using cheats. Obviously, you cannot trust that the player is not simply trying to get someone kicked because they don't like the other player. There's no right answer for knowing what to do and how to handle these situations. I'm not trying to scare you out of wanting to be an admin, but rather help you understand that being an admin is both a role you should take responsibly, and at the same time understand that you can't look up every scenario in a manual to know what do when something happens.
I have final exams going on now so I'll hook you up with two-week admin rights starting at the end of this week. If there are no complaints over that period of time, as I don't expect there will be, the admin powers will be extended for an indefinite period of time. Alternatively, if you're really nice to Ripley or Tanktop, maybe they can get you started earlier than the end of this week. :wink:
We're not making any sticky notes to remind ourselves to get around to adding you as an admin, so don't feel bad for reminding us this Friday
