One of you guys have to help me figure this out. I've been looking at this for weeks now, but I can't find any answers.

Ok, so there's this processor: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4555102&csid=ITD&body=MAIN

How is it possible that this $100 socket 775 outperforms modern $1,000 core i7 socket 1366's?
    http://www.yougamers.com/hardware/stats…andperformance/

I'm aware that the 1st link I've provided does not include any fan or heatsink. But there's no way that could add another $900 to the price.

I'm thinking that the Futuremark pages that I'm visiting simply have a typo because I also noticed that they're calling the $100 processor a core i7, which is impossible if it's not a socket 1366, right?

Basically, I'm confused about what that processor really is. I can see that it's not a core i7, so why do all the Futuremark gaming benchmark pages have it listed as one? I mean, isn't that processor really old now?

Well, I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, maybe someone can shed some light on the situation.

    Yeah, they've definitely screwed up.

DMC and I have determined that this is not possible (see image below).

Unfortunately, they haven't corrected the error for weeks now.

evil im not so sure lga 1366 is the right way (core i7) because in h1 of 2010 lga 11660 is going t o be released for now i would go for lga 775 since its much cheaper, wait a year or 2 then upgrade to the newest board and socket.

Yep, I wasn't actually considering buying any new processor right now, but I was just confused about why an old $100 Pentium EE was being called a core i7.

i7 fails terribly the only i7 that can beat all core 2 duos is the extreme at over 800$
also out of the intel line up the e8400 has the best fps/10$

Well i would say that it's silly to evan benchmark a i7 with out overclocking it (evan Intel incourge you to do so ..with there XMP Bios Profiles......also the new DDR3 memory has the same attitude ...OC please!!!!! lol )....and you dont need a crazy heatsink to do so... for instance i have a WC Q9650 Extreme OC @4.2Ghz and i have my AC i7 920 OC @4Ghz ... the i7 wipes the floor with the top end Quad...and so far we havent seen many games taking avantage of the 8 threads the i7 has.....in my view if ya have the money go i7@4GHZ/6GBDDR3-TC-PC12800/N295OC............if not ...your wasting your money on a rig that wont last a year...but thats life. :)

Plus my programmes (3DMAX/Photoshop) prefer the i7 X58 DDR3 setup to anything I had before....

I have to agree with DMC, I am running the i7 940 at 3.52GHz and it kicks ass. I could go higher but I don´t have to

But maybe it kicks ass more because of the beefy video card than b/c of the expensive i7 processor?

that is very likely. i remember, that at one point, processors were the bottlenecks, meaning your graphics card could theoretically run games faster, but processors could not kepe up.

but, after the duo/quad cores, i think i read it switched. now processors far outscale our graphics processors. meaning, if you have top of the line both, you wont necessarily be getting the most out of your processor, because the graphics card cant keep up.

however, some new games i believe are spreading out the "work" better, so that it is more proportionately spread out, resulting in everything being more fully utilized, and a better experience.

well the time i built my computer is great because from the date i built it in 2 years (my upgrade time) dx11 will be out but i may wait until 2011 because nvidia is falling behind on dx11 cards but on the down side nvidia will not have tessellation.

Ok so tessellation means less blocky ears and noses? Big whoop. Fuck ATI if that's all they've got over nvidia.

not at all, tessellation is how an object renders while rendering the shape is started as a crude 3d object a box or sphere and is than refined further and further or until a reasonable quality vs frame rate aspect is achieved. ati designed the xbox 360's gpu off of this and the 360 still cant max most games on pc out but it does a hell of job at medium to high setting on most games, while it works due to Microsoft's shitty components most resistors fall of the board due to the flexing from the heat.
    don't bash ati either

Errrr...well the new DX11 sounds cool..... but i'll believe the results when i see them....as to tessellation, Normal maps being used to displace the model in games,... also tessellates on the fly...witch adds millions of polygons, making our games look smooth and detailed...

    normal-maps.jpg

    normal_mapping_comp_1.jpg

so i don't see that tessellation is going to make much difference... but for programming the game and optimizations i think/hope DX 11 helps alot :)

No no, I like ATI. If it wasn't for ATI, my nvidia prices would be through the roof.
