Hey guys and girl,
MistaD and I have bad news. We experienced hardware failure last week with our graphics card and are unable to play until further notice...probably about a month or two since we need to save money for a new one. Those of you who are in college would understand :)

It feels weird not being able to play Crysis for over a month :( lol.

In the meantime, have fun in the servers!

Regards,
3CELL

What are you looking to buy, or how much do you want to spend?

Fermi is released and the Nvidia GTX 470 costs about $350. Best bang for your dollar. The GTX 470 performs almost as good as the ATI 5970. I would assume the GTX 480 is faster than the GTX 470. It is logical to think the GTX 480 beats the ATI flagship 5970 now.
Benchmarks comparing the ATI 5970 and the GTX 470 (aka GTX 4x0 series):
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=117000

Price to performance is definitely in favor of the new Nvidia Fermi. You can buy an ATI 5970 for $700, or just buy a GTX 470 for $350.

3cell, do you know what kind of warranty your card has?

The 470 performs between ATI's 5850 and 5870 and has been priced accordingly ($350). The 480 performs between the 5870 and 5970 and also is priced as such. The new Nvidia cards aren't in great supply, so it will probably be easier to pick up an ATI card.

I love these: Graphics Card Hierarchy Charts

Rip, assuming shipping is not tremendously expensive, what do you want for your 295 in USD?

nvm Rip, I think shipping charges would be outrageously high (over $100 for a small/light package via UPS?)

Charts can be misleading and out of date mind you. Check the link I posted.

The GTX 470 performed in that area before it was released. Now the drivers and benches are newer. Also, the ATI 5970 card is a dual GPU solution that also has a high rate of DOA. While the GTX 470 and GTX 480 are single GPU's.

please tioga the adults are speaking. this is much like politics in some ways if you are an nvidia fan boy or you support them you will always find the charts/benches that prove you right and if you are for ati the same thing.

Yep, I checked shipping too and the estimate came to about 120 US Dollars. Sorry Rip but that's too much for me. Thanks anyways.
And Evil, I doubt the graphics card has any warranty left. I built the PC on November of 2007. Another thing to keep in mind is that I have the following motherboard: ASUS L1N64-SLI WS Link_to_pics, so it has to be compatible for that motherboard.

If it's an XFX card it has a double lifetime warranty. Other brands also have pretty good warranties. I'm sure EVGA offers at least a single lifetime warranty. Of course, you have to remember to register the card when you buy it.

btw, as long as your mobo has at least one PCIe x16 slot (which it does), you'll be fine with any card you choose.

It is an XFX card actually, I'll have to look into that Evil. Thanks for letting me know dude. One quick question, I think my motherboard's PCI x16 in version 1.0, can I still install a video card that was made for version 2.0?

yes. 2.0 is a gimmick.

Finally got a video card. It's a cheap one though (9800 GT), but at least it's something.

Damn, I won't need my 9800 GT anymore in about 2 days...and it's an XFX which means you can register it for a lifetime warranty as the second owner.

btw, nice to see that you guys are still hanging around, D and 3 :)

Oh well, anyways, I didn't think things would change so much in 4 months, but why are all the OSF servers empty?

Because nobody wants to play a Crysis game with just close-range infantry battles.

I bought a GTX 460 and it is the best video card all around I have ever seen: In terms of heat, power consumption, price, performance, microcode, programming, etc. Just all around the best card you can buy.
