The, ''i broke my hand, so ill upgrade my machine'' threat.

  • Heya guyys, as i cant work for 3-4 weeks.
I thought he! lets give myself a gift for hitting someone in the face..

Ok, so this is the thougt, if anyone got a better idea/product please reply.

Edit: I removed it all as i cant order from newegg, they dont ship international.
Here's the new idea, from UKoverclockers.

    And some thermal compound...

    I got 2 grafic cards, http://www.amd.com/us/products/de…0-overview.aspx
i'm sure they go along with both motherboards? I added the i7 cpu and the motherboard, as i wanted to know if its worth the extra bucks. thx
Most likely go with i7 board & cpu

  • These aren't really very good choices, and I'm sure Verrater, Evil and Beta will be all over you any minute now, but until then I have a suggestion on the case because i like to think it is my forte.

I have the antec 900 and it is a complete advertising trap.
I would recommend a lian li full tower case like this one. It is much roomier and you will be stuck with the case for a while so you had better choose a good one.

  • Ok, ok.. that sound logical.. Although it doesnt look that cool:D
Ah well, i might aswell do some case modding while i'm at it. thx Tioga.

(Unless this is one of your stupid jokes:) )

  • You choices look good. Might wanna spend a bit more on the graphics card, for crysis at least. Can't you re-use your old box?

Check azerty.nl and salland.eu for components. Or use pricewatch option at tweakers.net. You will get a good and fast overview of shops.

Im planning to build a new rig as well.
    be-quit power (dark power 1200)
asus rampage III (this is still on pre-order)
    memory corsair 2000Hmz C8
    Video NVidia CTX 480
    Intel I7-X980

I plan to overclock with watercooling with sets from Innovatek and Koolance. Ripley overclocks the 920. You might wanna ask him for experience with this processor.

  • Yeah, just did,, Ripley gave me some good advise... well those 2 cards are my old ones.. wanted to re-use them as i kind of reached my budget...
and dont hink i want, or can re-use my current box.. That extra cooling i get in this case is needed.
If i would buy 2 new cards its probably adding another 600 euro to my card.. and i still need to get my drivers licence, and buy a car^^

Thanks for taking a look Tankop.

  • It looks like you've done your homework pretty well.
If you insist on buying a new chipset now id recommend the 930 if you are going to go i7.
But i would REALLY recommend not doing so as intel plans to launch a new chipset soon and prices will undoubtedly fall on those p55 items.

Motherboard is good ud3r by gigabyte is a home run.
I've used coolermaster ps supplies before they are great little ps's just make sure you have enough power connectors and pins, something basic you should always check for. The cables are always a little short on cm products though especially with that case(i have the haf) it's pretty damn big. The only others i would suggest are pc power and cooling or corsair and atleast 750W.
The case is an excellent choice, i love mine, but as tioga said lian li cases are really good alternate case suggestion.

Those crossfire 4850's are on par with a 285 so you are fine in that department unless you feel like selling them for a single gpu core upgrade.
That hyper 212 seems like a good cooler, the only other ones you may consider are the Thermalright ultra 120 extreme or the prolimatech megahalem. They are throwing the best numbers for air oc atm.

  • Yeah, i'd had to drop the Power due the lack of money as i needed the new memory..
(but as i am using my current cards and psu, it wont be a problem)

Too bad you recommened me not to do so, a minute after i did^^
I just orderd everything, it will arrive next friday:D
When i'm going for the next buying spree, i will buy new grafic cards and a new PSU.

Thanks for all the help, and will keep you updated how i will fail getting everything back together.

    Cheers mike.

  • Don't buy that PSU. Buy a Corsair, PCP&C, or a specific Antec True Power New. Actually, just buy this PSU:
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-116-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1088
^ It's the best PSU I've ever tested and touched. I am using it right now, in fact.

Gigabyte mobo's are good, especially when they have "UD" in the model.

I can't comment on the air coolers because I water cool. But I will say, it's good to upgrade the cooling.

However, you had better buy the Core i7 processor. It's way way w-w-w-w-way-y-y-y-y better than the AMD processor. I have a Phenom II and they are good enough to game with. But the i7 is best.

    overclocked and water cooled mang!

  • Yep, i bought the i7:)
And sounds good, (the PSU) However ill have to buy it along with m video cards. In a month or 2.
But while were at it any suggestions what i can upgrade about my cooling?

No problem good luck with your build! I feel you be most pleased.

  • A ''extra'' heatsink, can i place 2? ( i feel the dumbness floating through my veins with that question )

Oh, and someone please, please change the ''threat'' failure in thread:P

    • Official Post

Take about $100 off of your case budget and consider putting it into graphics. I see you have a link to a 4850. Dual 4850's provide tremendous bang for your buck, but if you're going the X58 route, I'd put even more into graphics otherwise you'd be wasting CPU potential. If you take the AMD mobo/CPU route, I'd say the 4850's will make for a balanced rig overall.

I also noticed that you were looking at the Hyper 212+ cooler. I do not mean to tread on Ripley's CPU cooler advice, but I will once again recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ it is under $30 and provides the best cooling you can get with air. This is likely because of the new "direct-contact heat pipe design", which we will probably now be seeing on all future CPU coolers. Maximum PC has yet to find an air cooler or pre-built liquid cooling system that can compete with Hyper 212+'s level of cooling performance. Tomshardware also raves over it's performance and ease of installation and I can attest to that.

Have you considered going with a P55 mobo and LGA 1156 CPU? The $200 i5-750 is worth looking into, as it provides $1,000 Core i7-975 Extreme level of performance in terms of gaming when overclocked (obviously, the $1000 Core i7-975 Extreme will be on top in applications that take advantage of extra threads).

  • Those graphs are easily manipulated with the data put into them. I'll put this in large text, since the default text size is tiny on this forum.

You cannot measure thermal conductivity OR heat production of a CPU using Gigahertz.

Every processor should be labeled with something called TDP. Lower TDP (in watts) will run cooler regardless of the megahertz or heatsink. The only fair/true way to measure heat output of a CPU is with watts and degrees celcius. The link posted above shows gigahertz and degrees celcius, which is most certainly not an accurate way to measure the CPU or the heatsink.
