The x6 AMD's look tempting on paper, but I honestly think Intel is a no brainer at the moment and i'm sure you can find something at a similar price point which performs just as well if not better. the AMD/ATI cards still have the edge over nvidias offerings in all but the latest dx11 games, beware though i hear new AMD cards are out soon!
Try starting a new thread detailing what you are thinking about buying and i'm sure others with more hardware knowledge than me will be able to make suggestions.
Definitely wait until the 18th when the new amd cards come out. Even if you don't like any of them, they should add pricing competition to the market.
Also, as far as gaming goes, the i5-760 offers the best bang for your buck. Anything beyond that is hard to justify for gaming use. If you refuse to buy intel, then go for one of amd's phenom II X4's. They've come down a lot in price and are as good if not better than amd's hexacore offerings.
